FAQ's- Varieties

A: There are a select few varietals that will ripen consistently in the Willamette Valley. Being aware of the limitations of the short growing season is very important when choosing what to plant.

Calculating the GDD (Growing Degree Days) for your site or region is beneficial, as each grape varietal requires a minimum number of GDD's in order to ripen.

For example, cool climate varieties all require around 2000 to 2500 GDD's and include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris. Warm climate varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon require closer to 5000 GDD's to ripen well.
